Middle Street Baptist Church celebrates renovations

Seacoast residents will soon have another option for lunch. Beginning May 2, a community lunch will be provided Wednesdays from noon to 1 p.m., through the Seacoast Community Lunch at Middle Street Baptist Church at 18 Court St.

The Middle Street Baptist Church, open since 1826, has been under renovation for nearly a year. As a part of these renovations, the building received a new commercial kitchen and dining area to make the community lunches possible.

The goal of the Seacoast Community Lunch is to partner with community organizations, local businesses and individual volunteers to offer a free, hot meal to anyone who wants one. Seacoast Community Lunch organizers hope to bring in a local chef weekly who would prepare the meal along with other volunteers. The idea of the community lunch is largely modeled on the weekly Common Table Lunch at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, according to Pastor Chris Dunaway.

Lisa DeStefano of DeStefano Architects was the architect for the renovations. Budel Construction Corp. completed the renovations.

Rare Lotus Garnet Comes to Jewelry Creations

Unearthed in the Mahenge region of Tanzania in late 2015, the lotus garnet only made its U.S. debut last year at the Tucson Gem Show. Now this rare gemstone is coming to the Seacoast and will be on display in loose cut stones and finished jewelry exclusively at Jewelry Creations for a three-day event; May 3-5.

The amount of rough raw material is unknown, and each pocket of production is small. “One of our longtime suppliers has purchased the rights to all of the rough lotus garnet and we are honored to have this collection visit our store,” says Jewelry Creations owner, Kelly Glennon. “The unique natural salmon color gives Lotus Garnet a similar look to Padparascha Sapphire, Morganite, and Imperial Topaz and looks spectacular in rose gold, which has been a popular color of metal for jewelry lately,” she added.

Jewelry Creations features high quality bridal and fashion jewelry. Voted Number One Jeweler for 24 years running by Best of the Best Surveys, Jewelry Creations is known for onsite quality jewelry repair and custom design.

We are extremely proud of everyone who made it possible for Ragtime to be recognized by the IRNE committee and send heartfelt congratulations to Josh and Kevin for their awards,” stated Executive Artistic Director Bradford Kenney.
